Can chiropractic help during pregnancy?
~Yes. During pregnancy, the woman's pelvis shifts as it accommodates the baby. This can often result in low back pain and dysfunction. At Los Alamos Chiropractic Center we are trained in the Webster technique, a chiropractic technique that is a specific sacral adjustment to help facilitate the mother's pelvic alignment and nerve system function. This reduces tension on the uterus and allows the baby to avoid a breach position.

Can children benefit from chiropractic care?
~It is very important to have children's spines checked for vertebral subluxation. This promotes proper growth and development and can limit health challenges such as issues with nursing and reflux. Chiropractic care has been shown to help issues such as ear infections, bed wetting, asthma and allergies. It improves a child's immune system and digestive health helping to limit colic and constipation.

What makes the "popping" sound during adjustments?
~Often times during an adjustment a vertebrae will move past its physiological range of motion as the bone moves into a better position. This creates a space inside the joint that is filled with gas (cavitation). The sound is the gas being released into the joint, and is similar to the sound that occurs when opening up a soda can. For children, elderly, or people that don't like the sound an instrument called an activator is used and does not create cavitation inside the joint.

Can chiropractic cause arthritis?
~No. Osteoarthritis in the spine is caused by improper biomechanics over time, resulting from an increase or decrease in normal movement. Chiropractic adjustments are done to increase the motion of a stuck or hypomobile segment. This promotes normal movement and can reduce the formation of osteoarthritis, or slow the process once it has already started.
